When I got here

Throwback Thursday: September 2014, first week in Glasgow

the island from my dreams
This is what I first saw of Scotland.
foreshadowing on campus
an hour of queing to get into the White T-Shirt Party, the first proper (uni) club night I ever went to / Upon entry, we were given a white shirt to wear and a pen to draw and write on our fellow freshers.
It was quite funny; wherever you went, you were decorated by strangers. I remember drawing hearts, signing my nickname and writing a lot of Franz Ferdinand things.
Straight after my arrival, I felt so disappointed by the darkness of my room and this gigantic bush in front of my window blocking my view. And this is supposed to be my home for the next year? Once again, I underestimated how easily I get used to things and fall in love with routine and simplicity.
I had never been closer to a stage in a club.
the real reason I bought a Freshers' Pass: the Twin Atlantic gig
Social Science induction with a view / Thanks to my Arctic Monkeys shirt, I made a very good friend right there.
This was the very first Ceilidh I ever went to, and it was a lot of fun. Veggie haggis and so much crazy dancing...
We decided to spend the chief of the referendum night at an appropriately named bar.
Independence Rally at George Square
(a great place to learn Scottish slang and informal national anthems)

  1. This post reminds me of the first time I experienced campus life in the UK. My room was a little dark for my liking too, yet somehow it grew on me.

    Ah nostalgia.

    1. oh yes, i understand! i'm currently packing because i'll be moving in a week, and i feel kind of sad to leave this room behind. it's a little hole, but it was my personal little hole for the last uni year. it's going to be weird to get used to a new home.
